Psychology of Gender for Suicide Prevention

Introducing LGBTQ+ Concepts, Terminology, and the Latest “lingo,” as well as research with the goal of *Suicide Prevention

This class is based on Psychology of Gender PSYX 335, a class developed by McNeill for Montana State University-Billings. The class is a 3-hour introduction to philosophies and intersections of Gender studies, LGBTQ+ resources, and present-day gender terminology, e.g.:

  • Sexual Orientation
  • Gender Fluid
  • Intersex
  • Transgender
  • Cisgender
  • Hetero-nonconforming
  • Pansexual
  • Transition/Retransition
  • Gender confirming/affirming
  • Queer

*The course will highlight topics relevant to contemporary LGBTQ issues and the role self-stigma and community-wide stigma plays in suicidal ideation, meeting the Board of Behavioral Health Suicide Prevention CE requirement. While it is not required, we do recommend watching our FREE “Suicide Prevention BASICS” 1-hour video prior to attending this course. Suicide Prevention printable Protocols, Procedures and Resources will also be included.
